I was fortunate to speak with the team at Frontline Education a few weeks ago regarding school nursing and re-opening during a pandemic. I am proud to share the interview that we did and hope that the information is helpful and inspires other school nurses to take their rightful seats at the re-opening table. If not, create your own table, work together with colleagues, even from other districts or states, and create your plans.
School nurses, you are not alone in the struggle to know how best to keep our school communities safe. Reach out, there are tremendous resources being shared across the country. As Glennon Doyle says “We can do hard things.”

Robin Cogan, MEd, RN, NCSN, FNASN, FAAN, is a Nationally Certified School Nurse (NCSN), currently in her 22nd year as a New Jersey school nurse in the Camden City School District. Robin is the Director for New Jersey to the National Association of School Nurses (NASN) Board. She is proud to be a Johnson & Johnson School Health Leadership Fellow and past Program Mentor. Robin serves as faculty in the School Nurse Certificate Program at Rutgers University-Camden School of Nursing, where she teaches the next generation of school nurses. She was presented the 2018 Rutgers University – Camden Chancellor’s Teaching Excellence Award for Part-time Faculty. Robin writes a weekly blog called The Relentless School Nurse.
