The Relentless School Nurse: PBS NewsHour Extra Features Fred Guttenberg – How to Find the Helpers

The horrific scenes at The Capitol on Wednesday, January 6, 2021, are etched into our collective consciousness as a nation. For those of us who work in schools, the pictures of our elected leaders sheltering in place, hiding under desks, and laying on the ground are not new visuals. We have been subjected to hyper-realistic active shooter drills for years. Some of us have experienced active shooters in our schools or right outside our buildings.

I will be joining PBS NewsHour Extra on Tuesday, January 12th at 7 pm ET to listen to an important conversation between Fred Guttenberg, whose daughter Jaime was killed in Parkland, and educator, Sari Beth Rosenberg. We have to confront the reality of what is happening in our country. School safety has never been more precarious, between gun violence and COVID, how can we feel safe at school?
