The Relentless School Nurse: Sharing Good News

In a world that often feels overwhelmingly bleak, there are sometimes moments of sunshine that break through the darkness.  I had one of those moments this week when I was informed that the New Jersey Senate and General Assembly signed a joint legislative resolution acknowledging my induction as a Fellow in The American Academy of Nursing. Thank you to Rutgers Camden-Nursing Dean, Dr. Donna Nickitas for sharing the good news with me and to Christina Zuk who makes magical things happen.

My heart is full and it does feel very special to be recognized for my body of work in this very public way. But, I am one of 2500 school nurses in New Jersey, and at least 96,000 school nurses across the country. We are all working at surge capacity through the pandemic. My work is fueled by an overarching goal to shine the brightest spotlight on school nursing practice and how it impacts student health and learning.
