Welcome to The Home of The Relentless School Nurse!
Being relentless is what it takes to lead change in nursing. Relentless school nursing calls us to expand our practice beyond the walls of our health offices and into the community. We understand the connection between home, school, and the health office. Relentless school nurses are leaders in their school communities, they are vigilant about safety, proactive about prevention, and called upon as a resource by those they serve. Be relentless in your practice, whatever it is!
What is your definition of relentless? Would you join me in exploring what that means? Look around this page, comment on the blog, and start a discussion about what it means to you to be relentless in your practice.
Definition of

To me relentless means having a goal in sight and not giving up on that goal. You know the answer, you know enough!

Relentless—always, always striving to support my students, walk along side my colleagues and promoting the valuable role of the school nurse.
You are an inspiration Lori!
This website is beautiful!!
To me relentless means having a great determination to pay any price that would bring positive changes to my students, their families, and my colleagues.
Thank you so much Rebecca, it is an honor to work with you, because I know how much time and love you devote to our students.
Thank you for encouraging us to share “a day at work” yesterday in class. I would like to share my experiences in your blog and wondered how to get started.
Hi Wanda, I am so glad that you are interested in contributing to the Relentless School Nurse blog. It is easy and fun, this is what I need to get started:
1. Your story of “What Happened at School Today”, it can be up to 500 words, less is more sometimes.
2. A brief professional bio
3. A picture of you!
4. A brief description of your school community, including workload, number of buildings you cover, grades served and whether it is urban, suburban or rural.
You can email me at robin.cogan@rutgers.edu
Hi Wanda, I thought I answered your message, but it looks like it did not go through! I would love to host your contribution. It is easy and fun. All I need is a brief write-up, 500 words or less, a brief bio and a picture! I will put it togther and then publish it on the Relentless School Nurse site.
So happy to have found this site and your important work. Though not a school nurse, I have always said it is one of the most critical jobs in healthcare. You reach kids at their most vulnerable and teachable moments in their young lives. What an opportunity to change a generation of lives…be bold, be relentless. Thank you for your great work.
Go Robin! So inspired by the work and dedication you show for the kids and school nurses.

Relentless to me means never giving up. Fighting for change and positive ways to treat urgent, emergent, and chronic conditions so children can get the education they need. Supporting our students and and their families by whatever means possible to help each child succeed.
Relentless as I see it in my nursing career is my ability to fulfill my dream of becoming a well trained school nurse. This would in-turn help me to assist in keeping kids and their families healthy. As a school nurse, it is also my responsibility to help students improve their attendance and academic achievement. This will help their parents to continue to work to improve their economy and welfare instead of being home because their child is sick and can not be in school.
Relentless, to me, means preserving; never giving up. Nurses have a responsibility to their patients, the families and the community to always do the right thing and look out for the underdog.
From Alexandra Nowak, RN Relentless in school nursing to me means to never give up being there for those who need care. It means to help the students always no matter what obstacles exist. Relentless means to go beyond one’s typical duty as a nurse and provide the best care possible. Also, doing what is necessary to bring to whole school community together so every child can succeed.
Relentless to me means to keep striving, to keep going and never quitting even when it gets tough.

To me, being a relentless school nurse means never losing the motivation to fight for positive changes toward the health and education of your students, their families, and the surrounding community. It means going above and beyond each and every day to ensure that your students are well supported and healthy enough to learn at their highest potential.
To me relentless is to continue striving toward your goal.
Relentless to me is continuing to strive toward your goal and not being easily set off course. If you have a goal that you believe in you should continue to work to achieve it despite obstacles that present themselves.
I completely agree that being relentless is important as a school nurse. We are leaders both inside and outside of the school. My idea of being a relentless school nurse is going above and beyond for my students. The students health and well-being is my priority and I will do what I can to ensure their health and safety.
Relentless to me means keep striving for what you believe in!! Be the advocate and the voice heard that benefits your students and your community. Never give up, be the leader that helps students to succeed in school and in their community.
Never give up.
Never give up.
Never give up.
Thanks Jerry…your support help to never give up!
Relentless: going that extra mile to provide resources or an answer or a service for that student and/or family. Being accountable to your word.
My hero, I thought of another part of the definition for “relentless:….conviction and never having to say you’re sorry.
Feel so appreciated reading all of this! I have been a school nurse for 25 years and never needed it more!
feel the hugs you are getting.
