I had the pleasure of meeting Jessi Woodman at the New England School Nurses Conference this past weekend! Jessi is the Secretary of the Maine Association of School Nurses. Jessi wrote “What’s Up, Friend,” a poem to celebrate School Nurse Day and I am excited to feature her as a guest contributor! Happy School Nurse Day to everyone!
What’s up, friend?
Belly hurts
Aching head
Throat is sore
Need my med
Lie down, please
Fix my shoe?
Use the bathroom
Hurts to chew
Splinter here
Bug bite there
Ice on this
Lice in hair??
Need some socks
Change of clothes
Borrow boots
Bloody nose
Forgot my snack
Miss my mom
Cough drop, please
Need lip balm
Lost my glove
Lost my tooth
Lost my hat
Lost my youth
I can help
I am here
Door is open
Bend my ear
I will fix it
Lend a hand
Lend my heart
Take a stand
Make a phone call
Give a band-aid
Give a hug
When you’re afraid
Check your temp
Check your eyes
Check your head
Check your guise
Talk to mom
Email dad
Write it all
On my notepad
When it all
Seems adverse
I’m on your side
I’m your nurse ♡

Jessi is finishing her seventh year as a school nurse. She works in a PreK to 3rd grade school and has 4 kids at home–who always ask–“what funny thing happened today?” There’s almost always a story!
