The Relentless School Nurse: Let’s Celebrate Ourselves on National School Nurse Day 2024! Mary Ann Runge Shows us How!

National School Nurse Day is celebrated on the Wednesday within National Nurses Week, which is May 6-12 each year. Since 1972, this day has been set aside to recognize school nurses and foster a better understanding of our role. 

Vermont school nurse, Mary Ann Runge reached out to me to share her advocacy efforts to spread the word about School Nurse Day 2024! Kudos to you, Mary Ann! 

Monday morning as I was driving to work, I was listening to the radio (WTSA 96.7 FM). They announced that it was National Nurses Week and to thank nurses that you know.
 
When I got to school I called the radio station, and told them that Wednesday, May 8th, was National School Nurse Day and asked if they would announce it on the radio for the community to know as they did on Monday. They said they would, so I will be listening for it!
Well, we have great news, thanks to Mary Ann Runge, the radio station kept their word! Here is our shout out, thanks to the advocacy of Mary Ann!
 
 
I have been a nurse for 45 years and a school nurse for 32 years. It is the most rewarding but at times the most challenging job I have had as a nurse. Would I ever change it NO!  So every school nurse CELEBRATE YOURSELF on NATIONAL SCHOOL NURSE DAY!!!!
