The Relentless School Nurse: Nurses Demand Ethical Leadership – RFK Jr. Is Not the Answer

In their Letter to the Editor, Oregon nurses Teri Mills and Savannah Powell present a principled stand against Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s nomination as Secretary of Health and Human Services. Drawing on their professional expertise and ethical responsibility, they argue that Kennedy’s controversial positions fundamentally undermine public health principles.

The nurses highlight Kennedy’s stances on vaccines, proposed NIH funding cuts, and opposition to evidence-based health measures as significant risks to national health initiatives. They also address allegations of sexual misconduct, emphasizing the incongruity of appointing someone with such accusations to oversee programs addressing domestic violence.

As trusted healthcare professionals, Mills and Powell assert nurses’ moral obligation to speak out against leadership that threatens the core values of healthcare and public service. Their letter exemplifies nurses’ critical role in shaping health policy and protecting vulnerable populations.

  1. We DEMAND AND DESERVE ethical leadership. As members of the most trusted profession for I don’t know how many years running, we haven’t sustained that level of trust with this type of incompetence at he federal level. Even if he weren’t so out there, his lack of health care and leadership is a HARD NO.
