The Relentless School Nurse: Don’t Look Away From this Little Girl’s Pain – You Can Do Something, Demand Action!

Nicole Hester/The Tennessean

This little girl is clearly traumatized. This photo, taken by Nicole Hester of The Tennessean, captured this student’s response as she was being driven away from the scene of another horrific school shooting. She was being taken to the reunification center. Don’t look away from her pain, this is the face of trauma. As a school nurse who spends every day keeping other people children safe from harm, this photo is forever seared in my mind. The trauma is palpable on the student’s face, look at her expression, feel her pain.

Do you want to take action now? Here is one thing you can do. Demand that our lawmakers take action and ban assault weapons. You can sign onto this letter, written by survivors impacted by gun violence,  gun violence prevention groups, gun violence prevention advocates.

ENOUGH IS ENOUGH! It’s long past time for Leader Schumer and Speaker McCarthy to give us a vote on the Assault Weapons Ban legislation.

Please sign this letter HERE by noon tomorrow, Tuesday, March 28, 2023, to demand a vote on the assault weapons ban legislation.

March 27, 2023

Dear Leader Schumer, Speaker McCarthy, and All Members of 118th Congress:

This morning, three children and three educators were hunted and killed by a 28-year-old female with assault weapons in Covenant School, a private Christian elementary school in Nashville, Tennessee.

On Friday, the survivors growing up during the Generation Lockdown held a rally in D.C. — in the rain — to beg Congress to ban assault weapons once again.

Since 20 children and six educators were killed in Sandy Hook Elementary School, we have worked unapologetically for over a decade to pass the assault weapons ban legislation. After 30 years of inaction, the 117th House of Representatives finally passed the ban last year but the 117th Senate failed to act and now more children and educators have been killed.

More than 13.7 million AR-15s have been manufactured since Congress failed to ban assault weapons after Sandy Hook and the sale of these weapons of war resulted in $11 billion in revenue for the gun industry. You will have more blood of children and educators on your hands and you will help the gun executives line their pockets with blood money if you do not pass the ban.

Enough is enough! The Time is Now for Congress to vote and pass the ban and deliver it to President Biden’s desk rather than continuing to arm future school shooters with assault weapons.

It’s time for Congress to #HonorWithAction.

Sincerely,

Survivors impacted by gun violence

Gun violence prevention groups

Gun violence prevention advocates
