The Relentless School Nurse: Seeking School Nurse Voices – Help Shape FGM/C Education and Awareness

Here is a research opportunity from Abrar Sharfi, a 4th-year nursing student at the University of Virginia, who is conducting a study (IRB-SBS 7201) to assess school nurses’ awareness, knowledge, and confidence regarding Female Genital Mutilation/Cutting (FGM/C). This study is evaluating baseline knowledge, providing educational resources, and measuring changes in awareness and confidence after an educational intervention. While I am aware of FGM/C, I do not have a strong knowledge base, and thought other school nurses might have a similar response.

Abrar is seeking input from school nurses to help identify current knowledge gaps and improve education and training related to FGM/C. Participation involves completing a brief, three-part online survey that includes a pre-assessment, a short educational video, and a post-assessment. The entire process takes about 15 minutes, is anonymous, and open to nurses aged 18 and older.

The deadline to participate is April 23, 2025. If you are interested in contributing to this important research, please follow the link below to access the survey:
