Vaccines save lives—period. Public officials spreading falsehoods about immunizations endanger children, families, and entire school communities. As school nurses, we are guided by science, ethics, and an unwavering commitment to protect the health of our communities.
In this timely OpEd, my colleagues Teri Mills and Donna Gaffney, The OpEd Nurses, confront the dangerous misinformation being spread by Robert F. Kennedy Jr., whose actions as Health and Human Services Secretary undermine decades of progress in public health. With vaccine-preventable diseases like whooping cough and measles reemerging across the country, their message could not be more urgent.
President John F. Kennedy once championed immunization as a cornerstone of national health; now, his nephew dismantles that legacy by eroding public trust in the very systems designed to keep children safe. The consequences are not theoretical—they are unfolding in our schools, our clinics, and our communities.
This OpEd is an urgent call to healthcare professionals, educators, and parents alike: standing up for evidence-based practice is not optional—it is a moral imperative.
