NASN School Nurse is the clinical journal of the National Association of School Nurses. It creates room for reflection in a profession that rarely pauses, where decisions are made quickly, and the consequences are real. It is where evidence, experience, and evolving practice are brought into thoughtful conversation, not in theory, but in service of students and school communities.
Cathy Yonkaitis, editor of NASN School Nurse, invited me to contribute a guest editorial, and I am grateful for the invitation. This is not a neutral time for school nursing. Expectations are expanding. Public health is contested. Studentsโ needs are intensifying. It felt important to add to that conversation, to put into print what many of us are already carrying.
The editorial is open access. If you would like to read it, you can find it at the link below:
NASN School Nurse: What School Nurses Carry Beyond the Health Office: Advocacy, Responsibility, and Action
Across the country, school nurses are navigating policy shifts, workforce strain, and increasing student complexity โ often all at once. Advocacy is not separate from practice. It is our practice.
