Did you know that nursing is not considered a scientific discipline and therefore not eligible for STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) funding? Major institution and government bodies are also in disagreement. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics considers nursing to be a job that is “closely related” to STEM, but the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Economics and Statistics Administration doesn’t consider nursing to be an actual STEM job. This is not acceptable. Nurses can certainly bring this to the attention of the Future of Nursing 2030 as well as sign this petition!
Designate nursing as a scientific discipline and allow STEM funds for education.
Nursing is a scientific discipline. The federal government should recognize this fact and approve STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) funds for nursing programs. We have a shortage of clinical instructors and STEM funds can help us address our shortage of instructors and nurses.
Designate nursing as a scientific discipline and allow STEM funds for education.
