I appreciate the support of Rutgers-Camden in sharing the work that I am doing, along with dedicated colleagues, Dean Donna Nickitas, Professor Sunny Hallowell of Villanova University and Donna Mazyck, Executive Director of the National Association of School Nurses (NASN). The voice of nursing in addressing gun violence as a public health crisis is paramount. The article we wrote focuses on the impact of school shootings on the school community. In 46 weeks this year, there have been 45 school shootings. School nurses are on the front lines of this epidemic. We must not be afraid to speak up and out about the ripple effects of gun violence in our schools. This is my “why,” please share yours.
