Tales from the Frontlines, hosted by Dr. Candace Pierce of Elite Learning, is a podcast dedicated to showcasing the vital work of healthcare professionals on the frontlines. The podcast also serves as a continuing education opportunity to earn contact hours.
I was invited to contribute my perspective in this special two-part series,
School Nurse Trends: Tales from the Frontlines. This series focuses on the evolving role of school nurses and our essential contributions to student health and well-being.
In Part One, we explore the core responsibilities of school nurses and how they navigate the complexities of student care. We discuss how they coordinate with parents, teachers, and healthcare providers to address significant issues such as mental health, chronic illnesses, and the influence of social media on student well-being.
Part Two shifts the focus to emerging trends and challenges in the field. We examine the ongoing impacts of COVID-19 on school health services, the growing emphasis on mental and behavioral health support, and the ways we can better serve LGBTQ+ and gender-nonconforming students. The discussion also covers critical topics like school safety, emergency preparedness, and the pursuit of health equity.
Whether you’re an experienced school nurse, new to the field, or considering a career in our dynamic specialty, this series provides practical insights and inspiration to support your journey.
Join us for this special series as we highlight the essential work of school nurses in fostering healthier, safer, and more inclusive learning environments. Together, we can make a lasting impact in our schools and communities.
